CATCHING UP WITH THE SPORTS NEWS

It has been a busy month for VG Tips. Much work has been going on behind the scenes. Exciting new developments will be revealed later in July. Whilst my eye has been “off the ball” during the quiet months for football, i did deliver subscribers with the news of Michael Owen’s impending move to Manchester United at breakfast time on Friday. This was via my twitter address www.twitter.com/lecrin

Breaking sports news will be available there in the coming week and, as transfer activity hots up, on this site from July 14th. I shall be updating the transfer stories that have some contact with reality or fact. Not transfer gossip the likes of which the tabloids love, but news of the moves that have gone through or seem likely to.

WIMBLEDON FINAL ODDS

The men’s final at Wimbledon should go to Roger Federer and the best odds you can get on him to win are 1-8. If you think Andy Roddick will deliver a shock victory then you can get odds as big as 7-1. Perhaps the better value is in bettin gon how many sets are played in total. A three set victory is 5-6 on. Four sets is 2-1 with www.betfred.com and if you think it will go all the way to five sets, William Hill offers 5-1. I’d love to see Roddick win as this will likely be his last chance to do so. He has been runner up twice before. But i think the best he can hope for against in form Federer is to take one set from him.

SEA THE STARS DOES IT AGAIN

Sea the Stars is a great horse. It won again today. Mick Kinane rode the John Oxx trained horse to victory in the Coral Eclipse Stakes at Sandown. It came home at 4-7. A week ago you could get odds of 11-8 against. Days ago, on the previous entry on this page, I told subscribers to VG Tips to get on at evens. I hope they did. Sea the Stars is now 5-1 to remain unbeaten for the rest of the season. Tempting odds indeed.

On July 10th it is the July Cup race. Scenic Blast is favourite. You can get 6-4 on it to win with www.paddypower.com But you can also get odds as big as 5-1 on Paco Boy. I like the look of these odds. Of course, we must wait to see what the weather does to the ground this coming week. Remember, if you place an ante post bet on a race this far in advance - and your horse is withdrawn from the race in the coming days - the bet counts as a loser and you do not get your stake back.

SEA THE STARS & SEE A RETURN

So Sea the Stars was withdrawn from the Irish Derby. A wise decision. Fame & Glory went on to win at the Curragh. Now SEA THE STARS goes to Sandown on Saturday for the Coral Eclipse Stakes. It comes up against the likes of Rip Van Winkle and Conduit. The latter is available at 9-2 which is an each way to be had, but i believe there will only be one winner. Sea the Stars is different class from the rest of this field. Take the odds of EVENS with the likes of www.coral.co.uk www.bet365.com and other online bookmakers.

GOING SOFT AT NEWCASTLE

Many horses are pulling out of races at Newcastle, Saturday, due to rain and the official going now being soft. They include my tip for the big race, the Northumberland Plate, Judgethemoment. Trainer Jane Chapple Hyam has withdrawn the horse. Money is now piling on The Betchworth Kid who likes the soft going. It’s price is tumbling fast and it may yet go off favourite.

Sea the Stars is also likely to be withdrawn from the Irish Derby on Sunday. It is likely next to run at Sandown a week today, Saturday, in the Coral Eclipse Stakes.

Adjusted tips are available now to subscribers who sign up to 25 tips for 25 pounds.
